Default intermittent starting issue

My 1989 Volvo 740 Estate normally starts first time but, just occasionally, I have trouble starting it when the weather is hot and it has been standing in the sun, although it turns over ok. At these times, when it does eventually start, it sounds lumpy. I have replaced the relay but I'm still having the same trouble. Any ideas?

I still need help with this guys. It's happened again in the recent hot weather and I still can't find any obvious problems.

It helps if you post questions about your car in your cars section. I moved it for you.

'the relay' ? my 1992 740 has dozens of relays.

does this 740 have a B230F engine, with the LH2.4 fuel injection, or something else? since you said 'estate' rather than the more typical american 'wagon', I wonder if you're not in the UK or something, where you have different engine configurations than we got.

Thanks for your help, Kiss4aFrog

Hi pierce, yes, I'm in the UK. The engine is a B200E, fuel injection. I have fitted a new fuel pump relay but it hasn't cured the problem. Thanks for the reply.

do you know which fuel injection system it has? in 1989 US non-turbo models switched to LH2.4, but we never got the 'E engines here and I dunno what all they used.

WOW, are you being serious. How the hell can anyone help you with such vague information.

Do yourself a favor and take it to a shop.
