Default Kickdown Cable Help

Like the title says. I need some help replacing the transmission kickdown cable on a 1990 240 DL. Where I am stuck at is removing the old cable sheath from the transmission case. The cable end is stuck tight in there. I have tried pulling, prying, cussing, you name it, it won't pry out. Any help or tips appreciated. Thanks

Ok, a new difficulty.....Getting the cable end attached to the kickdown cam in the transmission is proving to be a major S.O.B. I have been messing with it for over an hour and a half. Giving up for tonight before I throw a crowbar across the yard....Any suggestions? Or is it just a keep trying and be patient until you get lucky with it??

I used a visegrips to hold the grommet down to hook the cable onto it.
