Default Left turn bad clunking/rattle

My 86 240 had been doing so good for so long I was feeling pretty confident about her.
Just recently I noticed a rhythmic clunking coming from up front when I'm turning left. It sounds like pronounced rumble strips. It's only at a certain angle and when it starts it seems to rattle along for a few feet even after I straighten her out... Besides transmissions, suspension stuff is my weak point.
Any help is much appreciated.

Could be one of several different things. You need to do some diagnosis. Try the "push-pull" test on the front wheels. With the car up on jackstands, place your hands at 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock. Push with one and pull with the other. There should be no play. If there is play, it could be either the wheel bearing or your ball joint. To check diagnose further, you need help from a friend that can do the push-pull while you inspect the ball joint from underneath to see if you notice any play

You can do the same test at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock. Any play found there is mostly your tie rod ends.

add worn control arm bushings and sway bar end links/bushings to the inspection list

note there's an inside tierod joint too, behind the bellows on the ends of the steering rack, Volvo never offered these as a replacement part but they are available aftermarket. there's at least two differerent and incompatible styles of these, based on which steering rack you have. loose/sloppy/worn steering tierods are tested by grabbing the wheels at 3 and 9 o-clock and rocking them back and forth, while someone holds the steering wheel stationary.
