Default MAF Sensor Quandry

Car is 1993 940 Turbo wagon and I'm trying to order a MAF Sensor and having no luck finding an exact match. Present one malfunctions in high heat situations. Received one from 1A Auto, last summer, installed it and car wouldn't start. Reinstalled suspect original and it started.

Upon inspection the internal "Hotwire" configuration looking through the sensors were very different. MAF Sensor Quandry-maf-right-wrong.jpg I've tried & think I've attached an image showing internals of both MAFs.

I recently ordered another one from Parts Geek that was supposed to fit via the VIN number, but internally it was the same as the 1A Auto MAF so I didn't open the plastic packaging and am sending it back.

I see a Spectra Premium MAF on RockAutos website that shows my Bosch #280212016 as the application. However the internal view shows yet another "Hotwire" configuration. Is there more than one configuration that will work?

Is there anyway I can know if the part is really the right one? Has anyone dealt with this quandary before? TD

Well, they are a bit of dark magic. If I needed one, and had no spares, I'd rather have a reputable rebuild than some Asian attempt. What are these costing you?

They're costing anywhere from$92 to $150. The Bosch, which I'm hoping to avoid buying, costs $288. Problem in my area, I don't know of anyone I could trust to rebuild it. If I can find one that will fit & work, I'd consider trying to find a rebuilder.

Does the Hotwire arrangement have to be exactly the same? TD

No. The wire is just a sensor probe, could be any shape.

So I'm guessing that if I find an aftermarket MAF that indicates that it is a replacement for the exact Bosch # on mine, that's the most reliable bet regardless of what the hotwire arrangement looks like? TD

The most reliable would be to spend the cash on a Bosch one. When I am at the junkyard I always keep an eye out for replacements. They charge $35 for an AMM at the local junkyard and it's a crapshoot as to whether it will work or not. So far I have two spares - one was fairly new when I picked it up and even had the Volvo parts sticker still on it.
