Default main pulley

So last night Iunsuccessfully got the drive pully off, ie didn't get it off. I got the bolt out that holds it on, but I couldn't get it to slide off. I tried to pull with my hands, and pry with a screw driver. After doing some reading it looks like using two pry bars should do the trick. My only concern is damaging the timing belt cover. Is it pretty easy to get it off with the bars?
What would be easier to get the pulley off? Which one would be safer? A borrowed puller from autozone or the dualing pry bars?

Thanks,
Nick
