Odometer Stopped Working
Mostlikely it is a small plastic gear inside the odometer that broke. It is a very common problem. IPD sells a kit to repair it and comes with detailed instructions. I have never done this but I can imagine that the biggest pain would be to access and remove the odometer from the dashboard.
There are 6 screws that hold the entire back panel into the housing. Once it comes off the housing, in the center back of the speedo unit are 4 screws. That will get the speedo out of the whole cluster sans the front plastic case (which would have come out with 6 screws). On the side of the speedo unit will be 2 small screws in a diagonal. Remove those and the silver piece will swing like a door. This is where the 2 gears are. The teeth on the small gear usually become brittle and fall off. Also, it is not recommended to push the trip meter reset button if the vehicle is moving.
Removing the speedo and replacing gears will take you 15 mins at most. Cluster removal is also like 10 mins. Very easy

Check out this link. Describes the whole procedure in detail
