oil filter substitution question

oil filter substitution question
So my friend and I were both changing our oil at the same time, and -- just for the heck of it -- I decided to see if the filters were interchangeable.
It turns out an oil filter for a V6 Ford Ranger Pickup fits on a 240. The threads are identical. The gaskets are identical. The diameters are identical. The only difference is the Ranger filter is taller, but it still fits in the allotted space with no clearance problems.
So now I'm wondering if I could or should just use the bigger Ford Ranger filter. It seems to me it would keep the oil cleaner longer and let it flow with less resistance.
My question is: Is there any downside to this? Any reason I shouldn't do this substitution?
Thanks,
Eric

Probably it'd be OK. They might be some minor differences, (resistance?, pressure,?) etc. and of course, "you are not supposed to"...
But why risk it? The regular Volvo filter is quite adequate in doing the job, just because the other filter is a little bigger? Just use the OEM MANN filter, you can't go wrong. If you are stuck in the desert and the only filter available was the Ford, then OK...

So long as its build for the same flow direction and whatnot
I know nothing about fords
If it is truly identical aside form the fact that its taller you will be fine
but its completely not necessary. One reason why the redblocks last so long is that they have more than adequate lubrication.
