Opinions please - on IPD's Lubromoly
Anybody try this stuff? - especially engine builders? Additives have been around for a long time and there's tons to choose from. But since IPD endorses it I thought I might give it a try. I have a great turbo L block engine with 167,000 miles and 165 lbs of compression in each cylinder. But when it first starts it has some valve chatter. Only lasts a few seconds till oil gets up there, then very quiet. I don't think it's piston slap because it doesn't need to warm up to quiet down. I thought this stuff might help or even a thinner oil that could get up there quicker? It has 20-50w right now.

Oil in b230 is an overrated concern as the motor is the last thing to go in these cars!
I use full syn 10-30, change it every 5-6,000. Oil is the last thing I worry about; make sure you change the tranny fluid every 30k, and never overheat the engine--much more important!

I have been using Castrol 'Multi-Import' dex-merc ATF.... you drain the main transmission pan (start with warm transmission, let drain for /hours/, put the plug back in and add as much ATF via a dipstick funnel as came out the bottom. Now, disconnect the top transmission cooler line at the radiator and hook a clear hose up pointing into a graduated catch jug, then start the car and let it idle in neutral.... for each quart that comes out the jug add another quart via the dipstick, repeat until the stuff coming out is clear fresh red ATF. shut off engine, button up cooler line, test drive til fully warmed up transmission, check level with engine idling, add more if its low.
