Parking brake......?

Parking brake......?
Seems like the parking brake
is /has completely been stripped out of the car..
The lever is still in car.. but, from the cables back
is.... NADA.... not a single stitchen piece of hardware......
It would be nice to have one.......
What do you think?
THe cost is in parts to
reinstate a parking brake......???
And ..... on the backing plate of the
the rear brakes..... Could something
perhaps have/had broke(being why it was stripped out)?
that holds the Ebrake
shoes and hardware in place
Or is this just a case of a
rusted seized parking brake
"lets just dispose of it" perhaps?
Let me know what you think
THanks, G88

Don't know which year and model you have but you'll need more information to see what you want to do. Once you pull the rear wheels and take the calipers off you should be able to pull the rotors. The rear shoe brakes are now visible and based on what you see you can make a decision on what to do.

Sorry I didn't put in the post...
It is an 88 240 DL.
Behind the rotor is completely empty....
So it is the whole "kit n kabboodle"
Any ideas on cost......?
any ideas on why someone might strip it out?
theorizing.... something broken on the backing plate
that is maybe why it didn't get fixed????
How would the brakes sit in their????????
(pins and springs??? like a conventional drum brake?)
Thanks, G88

I suggest you find a 240 being parted out in a junk yard somewhere, and strip it of all the parts you need. if you try and buy everything new, A) some bits are likely NLA, and B) it will be stupid expensive.
also, I'd plan on new parking brake shoes, new rotors, and new brake pads, since shoes and the drum inside the rotor bed in together.... I like Brembo brand rotors, and Akebono brand brake pads. volvo brand parking brake shoes, as I doubt there are any alternatives.

Pierce,
You sortof answered this question I
am about to propose... In your post...
but, I will ask anyway the forum...
I have found a 89 740 sedan.....
and I would be looking at salvaging
the entire rear brake system....
For a 88 240..... sedan.....
I would be grabbing the parking
brake setup from soup to nuts.....
Possibly the rotors and calipers as well...
Does anyone out there in the forum
have encountered making a swap like
this and had good results with all the parts
transferring over from a 89 740 sedan to a 88 240 sedan?
Thanks, G88
