Default Please identify wire going into top of intake manifold (pic attached)

Hi everyone,

I installed the flame trap upgrade kit on my 1986 volvo 240 to make my life easier, and I think I did a bit of damage to this wire shown in photo. actually can't tell if it is a wire or a thin tube... what does it do, and any link to an IPD replacement would be much appreciated!

It's just a vacuum line. You can replace it with generic line, reuse the rubber elbow.

not sure, but I think that one goes to the charcoal cannister, which is under the left headlight. there is one vacuum line that snakes over to the other side and goes to the chrysler ignition module on the inside of the right fender

Yeah - that is the charcoal canister vacuum line. Mine had a hole where it rubbed through. I got replacement hard plastic line from autozone.

Great thank you! Ya I noticed it went to that cylinder under the front left fender... So that is a charcoal canister? Can anyone enlighten me as to what that does, if it should be routinely inspected/replaced, etc? I notice a few lines running to it

Thanks!

its the gas tank ventilation system. a hose goes back to the gas tank. any vapor expansion from the gas tank goes into the charcoal canister which absorbs the vapor, then when the engine is running, and there is high vacuum, another hose sucks the fumes into the intake manifold.

no service required, although eventually the hoses deteriorate, and should be replaced. many states with smog inspection regimens will check these.

I'd also recommend removing the throttle body and cleaning both sides while you are there.
