Default Volvo 240DL vacuum line help needed

Anyone know what this vacuum line connector is called or where to find one? As you can see, the part where a small vacuum line is supposed to split off has broken. If I can't find one I figure I should just be able to slip a line over (or into) the broken piece. Also, can anyone tell me where this line is supposed to connect to? It comes from the intake, between the MAF sensor and the throttle body, bit it was hanging loose and i cant figure out where its supposed to go. I bought this car for $200 after it was sitting for about three years, and almost every vacuum line in the damn thing was disconnected.

thanks!

That looks like part of the pcv system...

It is referred to as a "nipple" for the PCV system. Under this piece is a rather rigid hose that connects to the breather box. The other end goes to the fresh air duct.

The small vacuum line that is broken off goes to the intake manifold. Inside of this piece is a plastic "flame trap" that is also needed.

Once you get a replacement, install a new vacuum line between the small nipple and the one on the intake manifold. Remove the connector at the intake manifold and use a piece of wire to clear the port.

Back in the day we used to buy these by the box because every 4-cyl Volvo got a fresh fitting and flame trap prior to sale. The earlier design has an angle like yours, the later designs are straight.

Thank you, that was super helpful! Any tips on getting to the nipple without removing the intake manifold? It's tucked in there pretty good...

The nipple is what you have in the picture and it is already out. The fitting on the manifold is threaded in the manifold. I can't remember if it is an 8MM or 10MM wrench. Just unscrew it.

Don't drop it.

On my '89 and later redblocks that fitting on the manifold is 11mm. I remember having to walk back into the basement for a 11mm wrench thinking...10mm aint good enough?...its gotta be 11mm?...WHY?

That drain pug is about the biggest bolt on the car. Even the crankshaft bolt is a tad smaller at 24mm.

The pcv system on these cars brings out another WHY? For a car that's rather simple and easy to diy these cars have a kinda difficult to service pcv system when compared to other car brands.

The heart of it all is the oil separator box underneath the intake manifold. At some point you're gonna want to remove that box and clean it out. A clogged pcv will cause all kinda oil seals to stop sealing and start leaking.

Some people remove the intake and get the box out from the top...BUT it can be done underneath without removing the intake. I usually move the iac valve out the way... remove the two 12mm bolts that hold the box to the block...push pull twist cuss and get the box out. Spray a bunch of brake cleaner in it... shake it up... pour it out...repeat as needed. Make sure you have a new o-ring when ya put it back on.
