Default Replacing a power steering pump.

So i have found a power steering pump with all the aux parts for a good price. It does not seem like a too daunting job so i am going to attempt it. One problem i have notice is i could not loosen the two bottom bolts on the AC compressor so i had to cut that belt off. Is there a way i can bypass the AC compressor and just run the power steering off the crank pulley?

any procedures i need to do before i attempt this?

my local dealer slash mechanic quoted me over 200 for JUST the pump and not the pulley or the tank or labor. found a 91 pump that should fit my 92 at a junk yard for 60 bucks.

91+ are all the same and the best pump IMO. If you look closely, you will see the ps belt will not line up with a pulley as is. You need to source an a/c delete kit. These were found on northern cars sold without a/c. Usually sell for $65-100 used.

I'll go out on a limb and say because most so-called mechanics use an impact as a torque wrench.

Watch yourself with that AC compressor. The gas inside is under an extreme amount of pressure, and unless you are 100% sure it is empty, do not disconnect. You will burn, or kill yourself. I'm all for the 'do it yourself', but its a trivial piece of equipment.

Keep it safe

As long as all the hoses stay intact, there is little danger.

Post some pictures

Does anyone know what is keeping this compressor from moving enough to slip a belt over it?
