Screeching from Top of Dash from A/C
New to forum, but have read enough thinking this might be the blower fan going out. So I have a '93 240 and A/c has been running great in the sweltering heat here in Central Florida. Today it started to screech, like it was coming out of defrost vents, not the dash vents. Screech diminished when turning fan down. LAsted for a few seconds and then disappeared. Happens more when first starting car.
I hope this does not mean I have to replace the whole blower by removing the dash, or trying something like the chainsaw method. Some have mentioned lubing the bearing as a quick fix. Can someone weigh in on this option and what you have to go through to get to bearings.

Update. Today the fan surges up and down in volume. Also, in position 1and 2 it barely comes out. I figure this means the blower is going to go soon. What are next steps I should take? Is there anything I can do help keep it going? Also are there additional risks if I keep running it until it just completely shuts down and seizes?

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do without tearing apart the dash. Even to lubricate the motor bearings, you need to take the whole thing apart. If it were me, I would just get the new motor and resistor pack and replace it.
Good instructions on replacement can be found here:

Good luck
