Struts replacement timing / strategy
#2
#3
In brief, this was much better worded the first time around I have been searching the forums for answers as well... If any of these are repeats I apologize.
- I am a relative (to you) suspension novice
- Bought a 940T few weeks ago.
- Came with IDP sport springs to be put on (rears on car, fronts not)
- The springs need to be done now. It's pretty bad.
- My strut checks out OK at the local Volvo indie, also seems fine to me driving. Bellows and bump stop need replacement.
- If I am replacing the springs it seems a good time to just do the struts too? Or do I just replace the bellows and bump stop... and possibly bearing plate... and strut rod bushings ... and strut bearings and go on until failure then do the labor again?
- I read on idp's website: 'Do not reuse the bearing plate or spring seat unless they are in perfect condition.' - Does everyone do this?
- I'm coming from a stock 740 sedan, so the turbo wagon is an unknown in terms of how far I'll take it from a performance needs standpoint when it comes to struts / sway bars... holding off and just putting bellows / bump stops on the struts I have could save me time to research options as well, but maybe the research will only be a matter of hours.
As you can see, lots of ignorance to be displaced. Thanks for any help you can provide in setting me on the right path.
