Talking Trouble sourcing body panels and weatherstripping.

Hi All,

I'm new to the Volvo world but just picked up a gorgeous 1975 245 DL wagon . It was a TX car most of its life that then spent a few years in NH. I'd say it's an honest 80% solid car but there are a few rust areas I want to address since I plan to own this car for a long time. The rust areas are fairly contained at the moment and if addressed now shouldn't be such a big deal, but I worry if I let it go it will spread quickly.

Because it was in the hot Texas environment all of the rubber weatherstripping around the doors and windows shrunk and the car leaks from the door seals like crazy, which has caused the front floors to rust a bit.

After the car moved to NH it hit salt for 2-3 seasons and I'm seeing some rust on the rockers and lower rear quarter panels. I've been scouring the internet for body panels for a wagon, but can only seem to find replacement panels for 2 and 4 door models (mostly on Raybuck). Are early 1975 wagon panels just straight up NLA? Any sites I should be looking at for replacement panels?

I've also been looking for OEM or aftermarket weatherstripping so I can address the leak issue but having no luck. What are you all doing for window and door seals?

Many thanks!

No, 45 yr old body panels are long NLA for almost any make. What body panels do you think you need anyway? Better just have the starting rust repaired and repainted.

As far as seals and such, you can try the usual sources like Voluparts, IPD, Groton, etc, and of course wrecking yards. This car shares a lot of parts with later 240s, it's a matter of looking, a "labor of love"!

Thanks! Was looking specifically for lower quarters and rockers, but looks like my body guy is going to need to do a little fab work. I'll keep digging for the weatherstripping.

trouble with rust is, deeper you dig, the more you find.

a 75 is probably a B20 2.0L engine, might even be the old pushrod engine from the prior 144/145 models, and uses CIS injection. lotsa parts for those are going to be REALLY hard to find, there's more parts for the late 80s to early 90s versions with LH injection.
