Exclamation Valve shims too thick...what is the result?

I did a valve shim adjustment and may have gotten the shims mixed up and now the cyl head is bolted on and everything...

what is the negative result? low compression on the slightly open valve? No start? (have not fired it yet)

I had one too many valve shims and probably got the corresponding numbers wrong.

I am pushing from: 4.00mm to 4.20mm

What say you?

whats your measured clearance with these wrong shims?

a little too loose is usually ok, maybe the engine will be a little restricted if its /too/ loose.

I would just pull the cam cover and pop out all of the shims and measure them. Then measure valve cap to cam and install the correct shims. Loose will reduce the opening of the valve which usually is not to big of a problem. If they are to tight and the valve doesn't close then you have no compression in that cylinder.

You need to do a valve adjustment. Just follow the procedures for that and you'll have the correct clearances. You don't need to have the head off for that--just make sure you use an accurate measuring caliper, with accuracy of .00 mm (hundreds of mm).

Also, having the valve depressing tool and the pliers to pull the shims off helps... If you don't have these, you can cheat by popping the cam retainers and thus lifting the cam so the shims can come out easily...

I will take off the valve cover off and re-measure....I used a 10 dollar .00mm digital measuring tool.

I just mixed them all up...
but good to know.....thank you for your replies....
