Default 97 960 cold start problem

this 960 is a creampuff, the only issue is this. cold engine, try to start but all it does is crank. engine light is NOT lit after it starts.but most times I have to crank it excessively(45 seconds or more) I sometimes pull out the key and unlock the door and try again,VIOLA !!! it starts. But im not absolutely certain that its merely a coincidence.once its up and running its great.Let it sit an hour or so and its back to hard starting. Its making me mental.Has anyone out there had this problem?? I have a scanner but itll only do VW/AUDI/BMW/Mercedes.(I write service at a vw/audi shop) Theres a "Volvo only" shop 2 doors down from me,but THE OWNER IS A DICK,and a lousy neighbor to boot. back to my problem. If anyone can help point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.My wife drives this 960 and Id like to get it right for her. Thanks again in advance. Tom R

Do you smell raw fuel after it has been sitting?

Default No gas odor

I first thought that maybe the injectors were bleeding down. But that doesn't seem to be the problem. It feels more electrical.I haven't checked the anti theft relay, but from what I'm reading on it,it wouldnt crank if that were the case.Like I said earlier,I'm giong nuts trying to figure this out without the Volvo scanner.I tried the SAAB proprietary scanner to no avail. My Snap-On won't read "live data" in global OBD11 either,it only reads codes and defines them for you.Any help will be very much appreciated. My wife drives the car and I need to get it right. Thanks again for any and all help. Tom R

I asked about the fuel because there is a problem with the fuel rails leaking.
Try putting a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what the residue pressure is doing.
