Default Bosch Power Stage Questions . . .

Greetings!

I was wondering about something which came up recently

It seems as though there are two types of power stages available from suppliers for the '95 960: One for the European market car ("Estate/Combi") and one for the "American" counterpart.

Directly, my question is this: Apart from a 300% (relative) markup for the US version, what on Earth is the difference here? Are these units electrically/mechanically interchangeable; or is there some "gotcha" which was deliberately drowned in the potting to forcibly herd everyone into their "proper" markets? After all, we're just talking about $2 worth of bipolar crapola in one version or the other; and it'd be a shame to dump 3X more cash out for essentially the same assembly...

Thanks for the insights; and have a great day --

After twaddling about, I just did a "selfie" here --

This seems to be just a garden-variety Bosch part which fits a whole range of 6-cylinder vehicles.

HUCO has a nice x-ref breakout for the Volvo #1367776 here. Shop the 6-cylinder numbers where you may for the best deal

Cheers!

There should be no difference. The Bosch part is now made by a subcontractor because Bosch don't want to make old parts anymore. I believe this subcontractor is Standard Motor Products. They are also making old O2 sensors for Bosch.

I found a deal on the Bosch part because a supplier mispriced it, and I bought it for a few dollars more than the Hueco part. But I heard the Hueco one works fine.

@VDonkey:

Thanks for dropping in

Amusingly (somewhat) along these lines, I thought I'd take a look at the MAP sensor offerings scattered about here-and-there across the web for the '95 960.

Here's the report:

High price: $508 @ Summit Racing
Low price: $35 for a regular stock item @ eBay (high-volume seller)

That's a whopping 1400% spread. No wonder so many folks have the idea that these cars are expensive to keep!

So, if you're careful, you can truly thank God for the Internet...

I'm trying to find original parts on the aftermarket, at the best price from various suppliers. For instance the blue coolant is cheapest at the Benz dealer, in my town. I am usually not really excited about the idea of trying aftermarket fakes. A good information source for euro cars is repxpert.com, set country to germany and do direct search for volvo pn's that you find.

Check the dealer on everything, too, sometimes they really have the best price: timing belt kit, windshield wipers and spark plugs are good examples.
