Default checkin out a 960

Hey all,
I was checkin out an 95 850 when I saw an ad in my local newspaper for a 93 960 with 112k for a decent price. I never heard of a 960 before. I know nobody is going to say they suck or anything, at least I dont think anyone would, but are they any good? Is the V6 relaible? I notice the volvos Ive looked at have 4 or 5 cylinder engines, not V6's. Its not a GM is it!!
How is the gas mileage. Are they as well built as other volvo's? I checked on the net they don't seem to fetch to much money, any reason why? I just need something safe and relaibily with somewhat decent gas mileage, at least average in low 20's. Also ad said it might need new front struts, is that expensive? Any advice would be appracited.
thanx....

The 960 has a straight 6 not a V-6 enigne. The 1992-1993 960's are like upgraded 940'5.They carry the 940 suspension and most of the interior as well. The 6 cylinder is very relaible as long as the timing belt is changed at the proper time.

You can easily get over 300,000 miles out of it.

They won't bring in much money any more due to them being pretty old.

If you look up the 1997 960 they still go for quite a bit of money.

I bought my '94 960 last spring and love it. I bought it w/ 140k for $2000. I bought it from the orginal owner w/ service records. The issues a have run into have been a knocking durring cold starts and some oil leaks. Both have been resolved w/ using Quarker states high milage oil. The place that changes the oil said the synthetics in the oil will restore the rings and seals. When I bought the car I wasn't worried about resale. I plan on driving it until it will drive no more. I just wanted something reliable, safe and fun too drive. The 24valve still has spunk at 156k and adv about 22mpg. Hope this helps.

For what it is worth, I like my wife's 96/960. We have 160K+ and have had no major problems. Change the timing belt as recomended (if no records change). If it is the multi link rear suspension, they are a pain to find the bad bushing. The front brakes tend to taper the rotors. In general they are a good solid ride. We change the oil/filter every 3K with valvoline semi-syn. In the time we have had it, I think that we have spent about 2K in repairs - front suspension bushings, rotors, rear/front shocks, timing belts nothing major.
