Default Front suspension issues 960

Hi all-

Been having a rattling, metal on metal type noise in the front suspension, even over the smallest road imperfections. Lifted her uup tonight expecting to see something obvious, like rotten bushings or leaky struts or something, but I see nothing that looks really bad. The boots on the struts have come loose, so there is a little noise from those fasteners, or whatever they are called, but this noise is much heavier- like rattling against the frame. At any rate, ball joints look OK, control arm bushings look OK- the ones on the back of the arm are a bit dried out, but all there. Tie rod ends look OK. Only other symptom is shimmy once you get over about 40. That makes me think tie rods..

I just don't see anything that makes me think it's causing that much noise. Getting ready to place an order with FCP Groton for the parts, really don't want to order everything but since I can't see anything obvious, I guess that's the only way. 97 with 102K on it, and everything is probably original. I know the struts are by the markings.

Any thoughts???

Check thestrut mounts, and alsocheck thewheel bearing. You may need new shocks and struts if they are Orig.

Check the sway bar end links.
Also check all the screws to make sure they are tight around the steering rack.
