Default a little help please!!

I just recently bought a well maintained 86' Volvo 240 DL wagon. It runs great, but just yesterday the temperature gaged stopped working, then it went up to a 1/4 way up and bounces about there. It was at half for the 3 months I have owned it. It dose blow hot air as well. My question is, is there is a thermostat issue? or a Sensor issue?

My past VW's temperature gage would still work if the thermostat failed.

Little insight on where to being would but much appreciated.

Ross

It is a temp. sensor issue or most likely gauge compensator issue in the instrument pod. Check the sensor, dr. side head, first one, two wire. Then if that's OK, look up the compensator. IPD sells a kit to fix the problem.
