So my 97 960 recently showed the transmission fault code and W/S/E flashing lights. Two things have started to happen:

The car will not turn on unless it is in Neutral. Also, the engine just revs when the gas is applied while in Drive (D). I eventually have to turn the engine off, let it roll back a little in Neutral, and then turn the car back until I get power in Drive (D). Once I've got power, the car drives perfectly fine through all of the gears like there's nothing wrong at all.

Somedays the light isn't on, yet I still have to start it in Neutral.

This afternoon I put the car up on blocks without getting the code checked.

Does this sound like a PNP issue?

 

Sounds like the transmission is done for.

 

Does the '97 960 share a trans with the '95? If so I have one available to pull at a local yard.

 

So I swapped out another PNP switch I had laying around and the problems have been remedied. I'm unsure how long the transmission will remain fixed but its been 5 days with no reoccurrence of the problems listed above (keeping my fingers crossed).
