When engaging cruise, the car accelerates very slowly-before when I kept pressure on the "Up" portion of the switch, the car would accelerate very quickly. Well, today it was acceleraqting slowly, and would still hold the speed, but seemed to go down by 2-3 mph from original speed to cruising speed.

The cruise control motor is under the battery tray. Follow the hoses off of it and see if there is any holes in the hoses. Usually battery acid eats a hole in the Hard plastic hose under the battery tray.

 

Thanks, tech-I'll get there when outside temp is above 40-45 -cruise is not a big issue. I do like to have everything working "right" in my 850

 

Tech - I got to vacuum motor and hoses-did not see or feel any holes/cracks. Ruber hoses by the motor are OK too. Sucked air out from the plactic hose and noted that gas pedal would move a little first, but it would not hold vacuum. Checked hoses under the dash-all seem to be intact.
Drove the car and noted that CRUISE WORKS if I pull the brake pedal up using my left foot while accelerating using cruise control switch.
Cannot understand how to move switch forward towards the brake pedal -looks like the switches (cruise and lights) are on the same bracket, and two 1/2 in. bolts need to be loosened to move the bracket? (one of the bolts holds the steering in place too?)
Anyway, could not loosen either bolt, and left it As it is since I did not know that what I was doing was the right way to adjust the switch.

Is there any easier way to do this? I could not see any...

If you look closely at the switches they are adjustable. Push the brake pedal down and hold it then press the switches towards the pedal and then let the pedal go. It should be adjusted then.

Try sliding them back and forth and you will see how they adjust.
