Default 1993 Volvo Transmission Swap Question

Long story short, I bought a 1993 Volvo 850 Sedan 5 Speed (205K) for $400 as a 5 Speed swap car for my 1994 850 Turbo Sedan (130K).. I picked the donor car up yesterday to discover that the guy who sold it to me was the second owner of the car and had only driven it a few times.. Reason it was so cheap was that he did all of the timing work on it but didn't do the waterpump, which went bad causing the timing to go and destroyed the head... Now I have a problem, I fell in love with the car as it is in absolutely beautiful condition, I will take some picks soon, but the guy who sold it to me apparently wasn't aware of the extensive maintenance done by the previous owner before him.. I'm talking new drive shafts, new exhaust system, beautifully maintained paint, new radiator, cooling lines, PCV system, Clutch Master Cylinder, etc. everything about the car screams well maintained, I just don't want to crush it.

Is it possible to still take the manual tranny out of it and put an Auto Trans in it? I know it can work in reverse, but finding a second manual tranny around here my be quite the task and pretty expensive.. I know a 1993 850 trans is separate from all the others, but is it too complicated to switch them out? Thanks in advance!

Well, thing is, I'm 18 and have no need for two cars.. I've wanted a manual trans in my Turbo Sedan for. EVER! I blew a rod bearing on the turbo car a few weeks back and bought a new engine for it, I'm doing the manual swap while everything is out to save myself a few headaches. Then after that's all done, I want to put a 1993 850 AUTO trans in the 1993 850 car with the manual I used from it.. Trust me I would love to have both of them be stick!

If you try to make a manual car an auto it is alot of work. You need to change engine and body harness. Other wise it will not work.

That's what I was thinking.. I was out looking at it today and noticed the harnesses wouldn't match up at all.. I think my best bet is to just find another manual trans and wait it out.. two manual cars? I think so Thanks for the info though!

Your welcome. I know because I was attempting to do it myself. It was a manual car I stole the parts from for Yellow. Then I decided to make it manual again then got a deal on another car I could not refuse. Sold the car to a buddy that did a turbo swap to it. It was N/A to start with.
