850 Automatic transmission leaking o-ring at oil inlet pipe
Can someone help me with how to refit to the automatic transmission housing, the oil inlet line inlet pipe (part number 9142789).
For reasons that don’t bear going into here, and relate to my own incompetence, I had to remove the pipe from the automatic transmission housing when the transmission was out of the car. The pipe is a metal one that attaches to the housing at one end, and at the other end, to a flexible rubber hose which in turn connects to the transmission oil cooler. No matter how I try, I can’t stop transmission oil getting past the o-ring (part number 968757) where the pipe is inserted into the housing. I imagine that when properly installed, the o-ring would sit at the base of the 10 mm (approx) deep recess, with the pipe pushed past this. I’ve tried putting the o-ring onto the pipe and pushing it in, but the o-ring will not push all the way down into the housing and sits about flush with the top of the housing. No amount of pushing on the o-ring will rectify this. If I insert the o-ring into the housing and then try inserting the pipe, I can’t get enough force onto the pipe to get it past the o-ring and I am concerned that in doing this the pipe will cut the inner part of the o-ring, and drop it into the transmission as well as making an imperfect seal. I have tried both the original o-ring and new ones from an after-market supplier with the same lack of success.
Does anyone have any tips on how to properly fit the pipe and o-ring with the engine and transmission in the car?
