850 T5R
Stick with $6,000. You already offered that and I wouldn't try to lower the price. I was just out doing some yard work and putting my Volans back on my R and I got to thinking about what you offered her. You realize that you offered her 50% more than the dealer did? I can not see how she can possibly think she will get better than that. Don't stop shopping, because the best thing to happen is that you find another car you like almost as much and then you can say take it or leave it.

Thats true Jim, but still This is the car i want because i saw it and i fell in love right there, the color was awesome and i loved the car, the only bad thing that i noticed were the rims :"( no titans nor volans :'(! I know, i mean 6k its 50% more like you said, i dont know whats going on in her mind. But i really want this car, because its the ONLY R in Panama in yellow, and its FAST as hell, and i love those seats, an the TRACS system is awesome because here in Panama it rains 3/4 of the year and TRACS would help a lot, all of the other normal 850 T5'S i tried didnt have the TRACS thing

and my friend and I have planned something, i know its cheap to do this but, i told him to call the lady and offer her 4,900 for the car(since the lady thinks the car is only a turbo) so she can see my offer rules, and i told my friend to ask her several questions and we'll see if that works

You are in luck. Your mother has a business relationship with the seller. Some things are done best, if you just leave everything in the hands of someone else -- in this case, your Mom and Dad.

At first glance, this may seem like a good idea. But every time, schemes like this always fail. The seller will become suspicious -- something just doesn't feel right. Call it intuition. Call it experience. I can tell you this for certain -- the seller will feel like they have been played for a fool. You will never see the car again.

The bad thing is that, my mom and her only met 10 times or so back in 1993 or so, i dont think she remembers my mom, my mom remembers her because of her last name that is a bit weird, Papadimitri, she is greek or something, i still say that if the lady hasnt called me by monday i should call her

Well i went to the dealership and the S60R sells for $66,000
The S60 T5 $42,000
My dad is not helping me with the car, im paying for this car all on my own.
But for used cars the prices are the same, a 2001 BMW X5 3.0 sells for 27k here, and in the states for 23k so almost the same. Here a brand new X5 sells for $52,000
The S60 T5 $42,000

$20K more in Panama for a S60-R, yet only $6K more for a S60-T5.
I wonder why the S60-R is selling $24K higher than the S60-T5???
Back to the T5R...
I see a lot of repairs that need to be made. $6K plus $2K in repairs and you have the same amount that I paid for my 1997 white 850-R. Mine only needed ATF drained-refilled and new brake pads/rotors. I would hate to watch you spend all of the money that you earn and all of your time making repairs to this T5R. I know that the pre-purchase inspection will help identify the repairs that will need to be made. Yet, I can't help thinking...
Back to the seller...
She claims to have spent $70K to buy it when it was new. Maybe, a brand-new S60-R sells for $70K today. But with my calculations -- a brand-new 1995 850-T5R sold for $35K plus $20K for Panama mark-up -- the car should have cost her no more than $55K back in 1995.
If I paid $55K for a new car back in 1995, I would have a difficult time selling it for less than $10K -- 10 years later -- especially with less than 30K miles.
I would've kept the car parked inside of a garage. It really bothers me that the paint is faded and the headliner in the interior is falling. Maybe, I need to take another look at the pictures, but the leather appears to be really hard and cracked from sitting outside in the sun. This makes me wonder what else she may have neglected in taking care of the car.
Still, she is probably thinking that her car is worth at least $10K -- and she isn't going to change her mind over the weekend.
Option #1
Keep driving your Volvo 940. Stop calling her. Wait until the lady changes her mind.
Option #2
Visit the service manager at the service dept at your local Volvo dealership. Ask him, to mention to any owners of 850-R or 850-T5 with Tracs that there is a buyer interested in their cars.
Option #3
Keep business cards in your wallet with your name and phone #. Whenever you see a 850-R or 850-T5 with Tracs in a parking lot, leave your business card under the wiper blade.
You are too in love with that car, and the seller is going to know that. You really need to find another car. As much as I like the yellow T5R, I'm not really sure it a better car than my white 97 R. From what tech says the 97's are the best 850's and 98 is the best year for the S70. My son just bought a 98 V70 R and that's a real nice car. A Volvo wagon that will blow the doors off some muscle cars, it pretty cool.
There are other cars that you will like almost as much as this one. Trust me. There is always a chance that the people that own it will say if we can't get more than $6,000 we might as well fix it up and keep it. That's what I woul do. They do know they have a rare and hard to find car and that's why they think they can get more for it. You're lucky I'm not down there.

Heheh why do you say that? And ok, i guess im going to continue looking for a S70 T5. If the deal with the lady doesnt happen then ill buy the S70 T5, even thou i loved the car :'(
Im very sad now, because i loved this car ":'(
If im not mistaken, the 850-R Is manual? and i dont like manual cars, and there's only one in red here in Panama.. i will stop calling her, and if the deal for the yellow one doesnt happen, then ill buy a S70 T5 because if its not the yellow one then im not interested in the 850....I got a deal for the S70 T5 for 5.8k but the guy wasnt seling yet, so, ill keep looking, and if i find a S70 T5 at a good price then ill call the lady and ask her if she is selling or not.

No the 850 R is not manual, not with US specs at least. I think you can get them in Canada with manual, but not US. The S70 T5 can be found in manual, but none of the 850 Turbo's have manual transmission.
Then whats the difference between the 850 R and the 850 T5-R? Aww man i wanted that car(yellow) :'([&o]
I still think that if i get it for 6k i can repair what needs repair one step at a time, i mean i wont do it all at the same time, and i get 200 bucks a month so i can fix one thing every month or so, and continue like that, but i REALLY REALLY REALLY want this car.

What do you think about this?
I have like 600 dollars right now(extras), and by next month i will have like 800, i can fix the roof liner, get the car detailed, and paint the bumpers, and still have money

I dont think its going to cost 2k to fix all the problems the car have, because they are not that many, What do you say regarding my previous message?
I mean if the lady doesnt call me by NEXT sunday(almost 1 week) then ill call her and ask her, but i wont be calling her until next sunday, if she says its ok for 6k then i will most DEFINITELY buy it!! the only bad thing is that there are no titans
maybe in a future ill buy the titans for the car, i can find them on ebay for 200 each or so :S expensive thou

What? I don't have Titans, I have Volans. Titans were on the 95 and Volans on the 96 and 97. I kind of like the looks of the Titans better, but they are pretty close to the same. I have a set of Columbia's and two sets of the ones on my V70. Don't know what they are called. For some reason I really don't like the Columbia's at all. I don't like the curve to them, that's why I took them off my 94 850 Turbo and still have them.
They gave you a pretty hard time over there on volvospeed didn't they?
We're the good guys over here man.
I really liked that chart the one guy put up on where the T5R's were sent though. Only 158 yellow ones sent to the USA. Wonder how many were wagons like Ludeless has?

If you don't hear from her for over a week, she's not selling you the car for $6k. I said $2,000 if you were paying to have everything fixed by a Volvo dealer, and that was just a guess on my part. I looked more at the pictures over on volvospeed and this car is really not in good enough shape to go more that $6k. You can get a better car than that for maybe even less money. It's close to 12 years old and not been taken care of very well. Mileage is only one factor when it comes to cars wearing out, age is the other one. My Dad always said the worst thing you can do to a car is let it sit and not drive it. They were made to be driven. You are in a hot climate too, and that means rubber things dry out. I bet none of the hoses and belts have ever been changed. The fact that they have not called you is not a good sign, and if you call them they are going to try and get more money. Screw them, find another car!
Exactly, thats what im going to do, if they want more money HELLLLL no, they said that they have changed some hoses and some other parts, and that they have all the service records. Of course im not getting anything done at the volvo dealership(roof liner, etc) i will do it somewhere else. If they want more money then i will tell them "thanks but no thanks" and try to find another volvo, maybe an S70 T5 or an R(if i have luck finding one). But dam, bad luck the lady is not decided to sell, her husband is the one that is thinkning of the price, and i mean, their driver uses the car once a week and he drives it like...40Km or so and thats ALL, they DONT USE THE CAR, i dont know why they wont take my offer, its ridiculous to keep the car sitting there doing nothing and then sell it in 3 years and get like 2k at the most(here in Panama). I will call them in 1 week if they havent called me and if they say no, then there's nothing i can do
