850R Parking Brake Cable
The sheathing on the one of the parking brake cableon my wife's 1996 850R is cracked and keep seizing. I tried lubricating it numerous times but with the harsh winter and salt the city put down here in Winnipeg, it just doesn't work verylong. How big of a job is it to replace the cable. I haven't gone under the car to see how it is attached to the parking brake shoe side yet. Do I need to remove the roto to get at the attachement point?
Hi, I grabbed a Volvo 850Haynes manual over the weekend, and it includes a procedure to replace the parking brake cable, adjustment, etc. Not sure how easy it is to do it, but if you're mechanically inclined, you should take a look there! Good luck!
Did you ever replace it?
I've got one that seems completely frozen. I've left the shoes out of that side for now, but I'd like to make both sides work. The other side isn't great either, it is sticking a bit..

Did both of mine last year. It's not a hard job per se, but takes a little time. Back seat lower cushion has to come out so you can lift up the carpet and floor tray. I found having the seats pushed all the way forward gave just enough room to feed the cables in on each side. This link assisted me along with the Haynes manual. I think it took 2 and a halfhours total for both sides. Hardest part was mucking around with the springs for the parking brake shoes and that wasn't a big deal.

And for the effort you'll put in with the carpet and floor tray, do them both, don't nurse along one old one. I can't remember for sure but FCP sold the cables for I think about $50 each.

Thanks. I replaced the ebrake cable on my daughters BMW, and it was a real PITA.

Make sure the new cables are properly lubed when they are installed, and since you are driving the car in a harsher winter setting, I would make it a maintenance point to lube the cables every oil change.
