96 850 GLT Wagon Heater Fan
Greetings,
My wife's 96 850 GLT Wagon heater fan is FUBAR. (ACC system.)
When it runs, it squeals most of the time, jumping from quiet to very loud irregularly. Funny thing, the squeal will change or stop when rounding a corner or on bumps.
Over Christmas it was not running at all during one hour-long drive. Stopped for a break, shut the engine off. When we re-started, it was running, and squealing.
Last night it did not run for two short drives, then ran when we started up the third time.
Advice, please?

Mine does the same exact thing, and even does when turning, more so when taking a right turn. I thought it was just me.. 96 850 GLT Estate, 106k.... I went to the junk yard and got a "new:" blower, but now I dont know if its worth the pain and time to install and try it out. Ran current through it and sounds fine.. but i have a feeling when I put it in it will make noise. met a somone there while i was pulling it from the car who had done it and said thats what happened and it wasnt worth it, just deal with it or WD40 or something, best of luck sorry I didnt give you an answer. but mine doesnt do it in warmer weather..
Take it easy

By the way if you need parts for your 850 and live in PA find a Harrys You Pull It, I bought a leather steering wheel ( because its nicer then my rubber one, and the horn buttons work on it) great shape, replacement glove box and armrest also in great shape, and some little stuff all for $17, well worth it.

RE: 96 850 GLT Wagon Heater Fan
Hi,
I had the same problem with my heater blower motor squealing and making a rattling noise. I took the blower motor out and found that the shaft from the blower motor (to which the fan is attached) had playin it - due to this the fan was out of balance. I got a blower motor from the junk yard and found that the new one did not have the play. Also, a few days ago my heater blower automatically went to the highest speed and would not stop even after taking the keys out of the ignition. This was due to the fact that my blower motor resistor was burned out. I replaced the resistor and the blower motor and now everything works fine. Hopefully this information will help you in some way.
