The turbo in the T5R/R is the exact same turbo in the T-5/Turbo models, which is a 15G, and yes, it is a direct swap.

but is it a direct swap from the 13g to 16g?

and how much would you want for your 16t?

You can swap a 13g, 15g, 16t, 18t, 19t.

I have not worked out the price yet. Its MINT! They go for $399 new on ebay so less than that of course and when I do sell I will provide any output style requested. I am going to bite the bullet and spend the $900 to get a 18t.

so my engine stock i should be able to go up to 18psi with a good tune right?

is there anything that i would need other than the turbo itself?

No, I wouldn't go that high on an lpt engine. The higher compression numbers are not good for large amounts of boost. 16Ts and 15Gs are nearly identical, no real differences. There was just a huge thread about this on VS. For that reason, I just sold my 16T, they usually go for about 200. Mine was a professionally rebuilt 16T with 15k miles on it and I got 250. People run 18ts on stock motors, but that's with the proper supporting mods and management systems. If I were you I would upgrade to a 15G, it will be a good upgrade over the 13G.

Haha, yeah, I saw that. 18 psi without supporting mods on a 15G will be just about the end of its efficiency. Someone was running 18.5 psi on a 15g and still seeing gains, but that was with the supporting mods, on a bone stock engine, you might not see much in the way of gains above 15psi.

+1

from my perspective the lpt engine is just an NA with a low pressure turbo, for good reason. The HPT 2.3L engine has thicker cast iron cylinder walls to support higher pressures( I think I learned this from Carrots). When I measured my NA, it was evident that it had some 215K deviations from spec. This is why I bought a T5 today. From what I've read the 15g can do 15 maybe 17 psi which equates( with ecu flash and exhaust) to 270 -300 hp. That's a lot of power and if I were to go for more it would be a major cost jump because the AT can't handle any more, the pistons and rods can't handle anymore, 225/17's( for now but stay tuned) just can't make use of it.

Exactly. Good point as well. Without supporting mods, I wouldn't run the 15G more than 16psi. With a tune, exhaust, and the 15G, I think you will be satisfied, as it would be a major upgrade over your 13G. The only problem you may find is that the AWD system means that you will mostly likely need a custom DP, since the numbers that you see for tunes is based off of cars with high flow exhausts. With that said, with exhaust, tune, fmic, etc etc, you could go probably close to 19psi, I don't know if I would run that on an LPT though.

Read that link I just posted for you on VS. It has lots of awesome info about the 15g/16t and what you need to do to get the numbers that people are describing. Just don't forget you're looking at two different blocks.

from the way i understand it, the 2.4L is built exactly the same except for thinner sidewalls, which ***i imagine wouldent make much difference in anything intill maybe 20psi*** but its a shady subject where noone is really sure, nor am i.

i have an intake, and the exhaust shouldent be a problem, just need to delete resonator and new muffler (magnaflow)

People have done lpt swaps and ran a good amount of boost on them. I think you can run a good amount of boost on it, but like I said before, you just need supporting mods and the proper management systems.

possible FMIC, silicone vac/hoses, boost gauge, wideband AFR, full stage zero, an ignition upgrade wouldn't hurt, I'm sure there are a couple things I'm forgetting, but read some VS members sigs and it will give you an idea of good mod options.

Yeah, if I were you I would do that. If you throw in a 15G, it will be a different car compared to the 13G.
