Default Aluminum control arms on a 95 850

Hi all! on my 95 850 with the standard issue steel lower control arms, I need new ball joints. my local u pull it has an (earlier) 850 with the aluminum control arms that uses the replaceable ball joints. Could I switch over to the aluminum control arms? Thanks, Dave

I think the aluminum arms are a bit stronger.

OK cool- guess I'll go over and pluck them- $10 a piece. Always seemed kinda stupid to have to replace that WHOLE control arm when it's the ball joint that's shot. Dave

I have them as well. They cost $18 a pop here.

rspi- Bet you have WAY better junkyards down in Arkansas than up here in Syracuse. Cars start rusting in about 5 years up here! Another plus for the aluminum c arms.

That door looks like to went through a "drive by" with acid bullets. LOL

I grew up in Pittsburgh so I know what you mean. My brother makes me get my mom's used cars from down here. Most are totally rust free.

I hate you guys. The local Volvo yard quoted me 45 each !! Wisconsin.

But the thing about the arms ... if you're just using it as a daily driver you can get the steel arms at a part store with a lifetime warranty (FCP lifetime if installed by ASE tech) and each time you wear out a ball joint or bushing you simply exchange it and you have new bushings and ball joint.

I do like the way Boxpin did it and it's the way I'd go too. Aluminum arms, poly or Delrin bushings and a high quality ball joint.

I haven't had my hands on an aluminum one but a brand new steel/cast one is 6 lbs with bushings and joint. Any chance someone has an aluminum one off a car to weigh ???

Yeah I can weigh the ones from the junkyard, not tonight though. Let you know. If I went to a Volvo junkyard, then yes, they would probably be 50 bucks.

That rusty door shot was a Google image shot, but I see them like that all the time up here. My 245 (I bought in Virginia) was rust free! Dave
