Blower Motor Question

Blower Motor Question
Hey,
My 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo has a broken blower motor I think. It does not shoot air unless I am going fast enough for it to come throught the vents. I am assuming this is a blower motor failure. If so, how much money will this job be for parts and labor? I believe the shops around here charge $50 an hour or so.
-Thanks

I'm not sure what the book time is but the blower takes me about an hour in the driveway if I were to R&R it. The blower assembly runs around $160.00 I think for the part from FCP - a shop will mark it up and it will cost you more than that.
If the blower totally seized then chances are it also took out the blower resistor or the power stage depending on which type of climate unit you have.
It is actually quite easy to fix yourself, I did a writeup here:

Here is a non-OEM one for $136. It is probably reliable enough to buy and save money.
It is not hard at all to install. It is just a matter of dismantling the glovebox a little. After that it is just a plug/unplug scenario.
WHAT REALLY SUCKS is that about two weeks ago I had an extra perfectly good working blower motor that I got rid of because I didn't think I would ever need it again. I would have sold it for like $10 +shipping. Just bad luck on timing I guess.
A volvo dealership would probably charge $50/hour which would be about an hour job for them.

Many stealers are as high as $130 per hour. They figure if you are using them in this economy you have no other option. Any way it goes, they will tell you the labor cost of doing the job over the phone before you come in. They have the labor hour estimate for every job. They they will likely NOT accept your part so you can expect to pay their part cost.
That is another entire subject. Some dealers charge more than others on parts. My stealer charges 50% more for parts that I get from the stealer in Charlotte. So, if I have to get it from a stealer, I call and order from the one in Charlotte. LOL

Hey,
I noticed that my lighter outlet in the front does not work. I believe there used to be light showing in it, and now there is no light and when I plug stuff in it, it does not work.....could this be related? Is there a fuse that controls both?? Also, in my instrument cluster, the time is all that shows and there is no access to gas mileage, trip odo, temp, etc.? I am wondering if there is some kind of connection to this all...no pun intended.
-Thanks

I'm sorry to say but if you don't know how to check your fuses, you need to get a friend that can do that for you FAST. Or drive the thing to a machanic quick.
As for the lighter, there is a light that can be blown out there. Or the thing may have blown a fuse, not sure which. As stated above, let someone check your fuses and get the thing fixed. It's hot all over the country and I can't imagine you driving with no AC.

As for the cigarrette ligter:
Check underneath there. The electricity supplied to the bulb and to the actual lighter itself are different wirings. It is a coincidence that both don't work.
As for the instrument cluster:
Does it say DISC or nothing at all?
It may be a disconnection in the back of the cluster or the switch to change displays may simply be disconnected in back.
