RE: Brakes make a hugh vibration sound
Tech,
It does sound like the bass except very loud and annoying. The front and the read pads are new. I believe the rear pads are flat all the way across and the front are angled at the start and the end of the pad. The rotors have been turned and I have always had them turned on all my Volvo's by the same shop with very good success. Again, it only does it occassionally when it is HOT outside. say 90 - 95 F.
Do you still think half shims? What do they do? Both front and rear brakes too? Where can you get them?
Please advise.
Thanks in advance.

Do you get a vibration when you step on the brakes? I would double check the rotors...especially if they're the cheap ones for like $30 and also what pads are you using??? The 850 is a heavy car and the normal pads would heat quick, and one stomp on the pads would warp the rotors. (Just from experience)
I would use Brembo blanks and some type of ceramic pads or performance pads
just my 2psi

I had the same problem. You have to put the half shims on the rear brakes. You go to the dealer and tell them you need the half shims and they will know exactly what you are talking about. Fixed my problem right up. I use nothing but OEM pads too. I have tried others, but they squeal. I will trade squeal for dust any time. My wheels always look dirty, but my car stops and I have no squeal or vibration.

I think you should try the half shims first. It's a cheap thing to try and will only take you about 1/2 hour to put them on. If that doesn't fix the problem then think about new rotors. I never have my rotors turned any more. I just buy new ones when they get vibration.

RE: Brakes make a hugh vibration sound
Added the half shims from the dealer corrected the problem for 1 month now. Cost - $14. Be sure to ask them the proper orientation, the shimmed part goes the direction the wheels turn. Use lithium grease between the shim and the piston and between the shim and the brake pad.

Hey thehost, try this as a place to buy the half shims. It's a Volvo Dealer in Olympia, WA. I have ordered parts from them. You can call them at 1-888-273-7935.
