Probably needs a new evaporator. Having mine done right now. I had one done on my 94, my 97 and now my 95. My son has had his done on one of his 98's. If you need recharged often, 90% chance your evaporator is bad, and it costs to have it done. Luckily my son and son in law are doing mine for a reasonable price.

Is this evaporator issue just an issue on the P1 cars? I have a P2 S60 and have not had an issue but once in a while, it will get warm, then go back to normal out of no where.

Yes it is only a problem with the 850's and S70's the S60 is safe.

I'm telling you this, after seeing what my son and son in law are going through to change the evaporator I can see why is costs so much. There is no way in hell I could do that by myself. They said the 98 V70 they did was much easier than the 95 850.

I think the going rate around here is more like $1500 to have it done. I used an aftermarket evaporator from fcpgroton, sure hope it holds up. Parts were only about $200 total. The boys wanted $350 for doing it, but I'm giving them $500, and I feel like I got a deal for around $700 total. I was willing to pay the $1500 if I had to.

Not driving the yellow T5R cause the AC was not working was no longer an option.

well im a very happy man.. the a/c was fixed for $150! all it needed was the freon. the guy checked and there are no leaks in the compressor. all i want is for this a/c to last another year or 2, but i'll see what happens

Jim- i was not going to pay the $1500.. its worth more then the car!! (haha) so if i have to pay $150 every other year or even every year.. ill do it. The a/c if great to have, especially driving on the highway.

I was putting cans in myself and as long as they lasted a season I was fine. The last time I did mine though it only lasted about a week. That's when I had it done. I plan on keeping my two 850's forever though, so I will spend what I need to spend to keep them as near perfect as possible.

They finished the car last night. It was blowing 47 degrees after they finished recharging. Got too cold in the car this morning coming to work. Had to turn it off.

Anybody in the Columbus, Ohio area want this done my son and son in law will do it for them for a lot less than any dealer, and my son in law is a mechanic. My son, well he's the type of guy who can fix most anything and has always been that way.

oh wow thats nice! Yesterday i drove out to Long Island and got cought in traffic and heavy rain and fog. The A/C blew not too cold, more like room temp. maybe alittle colder. When i wasnt stuck in traffic the a/c was better. When we were stuck in traffic the windows started to fog over from the pouring rain, so i had to put the air towards the wind, thus with humidity at 80%, i didnt feel 'cool' anymore and it sucked. LOL . But once we started going and the rain slowed down and i was able to put the air back towards the passengers, it felt really good, again, only blowing like about 70. When i went out later yesterday the air felt freezing then again it was about 70ish outside.. so overall im happy with the a/c because i can drive with the windows up and actually bring it alllllll they way to the end of long island, which was not an option before this recharge.

After reading that, I'm certain you need an evaporator to get it working the way it is supposed to work. Once it gets over 90 you will not be getting cooled down the way it sounds to me.
