Default Center Brake Light

My center brake light is working now and again. I changed the bulb, inspected the leads, used contact gel on the bulb but still have the same problem. When I used a multimeter at the leads it read 9 volts where the other two brake lights which are working read 12 volts. Any suggestions?

other than not posting the same question twice, id check the wires that go to the 3rd brake light for corrosion and check where the wires come into the assembly. I'd also check the plug.

Where is your light? Is this a wagon? In a spoiler?

If its mounted on the trunk or lid the wires can eventually break at the pivot point.

It's the sedan. It's located on the dash behind the rear seats

Then my thought does not apply.

Do you have a test light that you can connect to it for a few days to see if its the supply or the bulb assembly?

Well the problem is intermittent. I did see the bulb working today. So I know the bulb assembly is fine. When I put the multimeter right at the lead to the assembly that's where I see the low voltage so I think the problem is not with the assembly itself

Try creating a new ground to the frame and retest the voltage. If voltage returns to normal, you found the problem.
