Hi i have this valve like noise like metal hitting metal ticking noise coming from my engine, it goes faster the faster i rev the engine its there when i,m not accelerating and there when the engine is at idle. i think it has gotten loader in the last month its there for the last couple of month,

i,m driving a volvo s40 2001 with 52k on the clock serviced 3 months ago.
one of my friend told me it could be a bad exhaust valve or fuel valve on one of the cylinders is that true?
cause i know thats expensive to get fixed

Have the oil pressure checked it could be bad Oil Pan O-rings.

 

Tech it sounds like it coming from the top left side of the engine if you where standing over it.
would that be where the oil pan O ring is

 

The o-rings are in the bottom of the engine.
But they help Hold oil pressure when the car is running.
If they are bad basically you will have low oil pressure.
I also believe the left side(When you look straight at the enigne) is also the end of the line for the oil before it goes to the bottom of the engine.

 

Would the wrong engine oil cause this because you said use 10 w 30 ya?

i think i put in a litre of 10w 40 over 3 months ago would that have any impact i,m living in ireland aswell that would'nt have any effect on what ye use in usa would be different to here

 

No that would not affect at all.

It looks easy there but its a dirty job i don't think i'd try it not really a mechanic,

plus there is'nt a 100% chance that it is a bad O ring is there

i'l bring it to my local volvo dealers tomorrow and see what they say they say the sound is and i'l get back to ya tommorow
