Default cracked windshield on a Volvo 850

Guys am doomed.lol. Was replacing my wiper blades and accidentally my wiper arm hit my glass creating a crack. Are there any DIY tutorials on how to replace the windshield? Or is it something that needs to be replaced by a professional? Any suggestions will be appreciated

Definitely a pro job only IMO, but maybe you can find a salvage one and get a local installer to do it.

We have second hand glass shops out here. They buy the glass from the wreckers and install them. Its about half the price. May want to see if there is something like that around you.

Would that sort of accidental damage not be covered by your insurance?
Worth checking out at least.
Here in NZ we have excess free cover for glass breakages as an insurance option on the policy.
Definately a professionals job. Not DIY.

It's one of those jobs that can be done by a DIYer but it' tricky and paying someone else to do it right is a better option.

It is sooooo not worth it to fix it yourself A windshield guy will come to wherever the car is parked and replace it for $200 and not even bother you at all. You can sleep through it.

to do it yourself with piano wire is very physically demanding.

Call your insurance company first. They may fix it for free.

thanks guys for the quick reply. unfortunately for me am not covered by insurance. i will have to find a used one and let a professional replace it for me. the crack is on the lower end on the passenger side. it is not distracting my view for now. when the crack expands to the end side of the windshield will it break? or its not that easy for a cracked windshield to just break. thank you
