Default Disconnected hose, but where does it go to?

Hi all,

I was having a look at the engine because I could smell something and when I looked there was white smoke that smelt like fuel / oil. I can see where it is dripping so I looked a bit more and saw there was a hose that is disconnected but I have no idea where it goes too. I've taken a couple of pics, they may or may not be helpful, the blue arrow in the engine shot is where the hose is, you have to look through the air intake pipe and distributor and you'll find a space in there and that is where the mystery hose is. It looks like there is oil leaking from there but very very slowly. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

That line is part of the PCV system. The red hose with the hose clamps is a patch and is not original to the system.

There is a decent diagram here but I'm not sure what year your car is - I just took a guess and the link is for a '96. On the turbos there isn't much of a difference between model years like there is on the NA cars. Actually the hose routing is pretty much the same on all of them but the angle of the bayonet connector at the flame trap on the NA cars is quite different between model years on the NA versions.

winston91,

Do you realize what you have there? The first Turbo 850's that came out had the what we call a 'reversed intercooler' setup by default or factory OEM. Those are really rare. Later productions of the 850 pumped the air into the intercooler from the bottom. I was staring at it wondering if someone had just changed it themselves but looking at the pipe going onto the throttle body it looks factory. The rest of us pay money to have our charge pipes run like this. Very cool.

I think Winston is overseas somewhere. Not in the US. The brake res is not in our spot. I think it's a RHD car.

BTW, did you notice how clean that knock sensor was? May be the cleanest motor I have ever seen.

Boxpin,

Resale value of the car, the body is in extremely good condition. I'll have to get some pics at some point.

Rspi,

You are correct, I live in Australia, not sure if that changes rarity.
The engine was hit with a pressure washer a couple of weeks ago when I got rego done.

Good eye. He is also a manual...no trans cooler lines. I wonder if the previous owner had a catch can and took it out leaving the line open. He should have the same on the intake.

You guys know your Volvos haha, I may have to buy a workshop manual so I can read and see what the engine should look like and where everything goes.
