Mysterious Broken & Disconnected hose
I noticed a broken hose today and after following it back to see where it goes I found out it was disconnected in one place.
The hose comes from out of intake manifold, comes to a "T" splitter, then goes to the front and attaches to some kind of sensor right behind the radiator on the drivers side. Going the other direction from the "T" splitter, the hose goes back to the base of the air box tube that feeds air to the engine. The base of the air box tube has a nipple where I think this hose is supposed to conenct to.
Anybody know what this hose is for, why it might be disconnected and possibly some part numbers so I can replace it? Any clue what all the white stuff is on the hose and the "T" splitter? See attached photos.
First picture is an overall view of where the hose originates.
Second picture is a close up of the hose that is split.
Third picture is a real close up of the hose that is split.
Fourth picture is the "T" splitter where the hose splits to the front and rear of engine compartment as described above. The "T" splitter is right next to the rubber part of the turbo intake hose, right before it turns into metal tubing.

After looking at volvopartswebstore.com parts diagrams, I think that it is Part #31 on this diagram which is part of the carbon filter.

That sounds about right. As for what size line to get, realy just about any vacuum line would work as long as it's the same size. I usually cut a little piece off and walk it in an auto parts store and get a foot or two. Then I usually get a line connector and just splice a piece in. I'm not going to try to fish a 4' long piece through where ever it came from.
As for the white stuff, it's likely some kind of spray cleaner that someone sprayed in the motor area that didn't get rinsed off well.
