Default ECC, Blower Motor, Resistor, Flashing lights

Hey all,

I have read the responses to my post about my blower motor not blowing heat, and a post about the ECC and does the lights flash. Makes me ask questions about why the lights flash or not and what does this all mean. So hereare my symptons.

ECC heats and has warmth, but fan won't blow heat, fuses are good.

Here is what I have seen.

When I start the car the AC light and the REC light flashes on and off. AC is in the off and REC is toggled to off. They flash for about 6+ times then the REC light goes off and the AC light stay lite showing the AC is in the off position.

No fan

When I turn on the fan, slide from slow to fast, it causes the AC and REC lights to start flashing again. They flash again for about 6+ times and then the REC light goes off.

This flashing sequence never happened before, except some flashing at start up.

Since my fan worked up to one day, TECH thought that either my resistor or my blower motor might have gone bad.

What I really don't know is the importance of the AC and REC lights flashing.

All help is always greatly appreciated as i am trying to get warmth back into my car.

Thanks
Ray

They flash when you slide the switch on because the ECC is seeing the blower motor pulling to many amps to work so the ECC cut the blower and makes the lights flash.

Also, the flashing LEDs after startup means that the ECC has stored fault codes. For 1995 or earlier models you can reset the codes yourself but for newer models you need a tester/scanner, most likely found only at the dealer.

So would one then assume the ECC is good and I would go back to the issue of either the resistor or a bad fan blower motor?

All, since I should think about getting myself a tester/scanner tool to pull codes and do resets, what device would you all reccommend?

I would assume the ECC head/module is probably ok. I would assume it is either the resistor/blower like Tech has suggested. If you can find a junked 850, you can test which component is bad (or apply some power to the blower with it out the car so as not to fry other devices). Others may have better alternative for testing the blower in the car but with my sleepy head this is all I can think of, zzz...

I do not know of any OBD-II scanner that can access the climate control. Most aftermarket scanners are only good for the engine, tranny & ABS but you can do aresearch. I myself like Actron: http://www.actron.com/

Most generic scanners ONLY read engine codes.
You usually need a real expansive one to read Climate codes.
