Default engine type 56?

According to the VIN decoder I found online, my 97 850 GLT VIN indicates an engine type 56. The same VIN decoder doesn't list an engine type 56. It shows 55 and 57 and a couple more that are all in the 50's. Any ideas???

Thanks.

Pretty sure the 56 means low pressure turbo. I know 57 is High Pressure Turbo and 58 is the R. I'm not positive on this though about the 56. The LPT was only on the 97 model 850 though.

Ok got a similiar question. Did all 97 850 GLT have light pressure turbo's? Is everything the same (Motor, turbo, trannie) as a T-5 model just pushing less boost becasue of the ECU limiting boost?

Thanks everyone. Would an ECU from one of the other engines work with this engine?

turbo matt -> No.

the low pressure turbo motor is a 2.4L where as the HPT is a 2.3, the piston sidewalls are thicker so it should be able to handle more boost, but the rods are the same, and they are very similar.

To the OP, yes a T5 or an R ECU should work providing you are motronic 4.3. My cars a 97AWD with a b5254T and im 4.4, not all 97 LPT's are 4.4, you would have to get that checked at a volvo dealer.
