Ok, read the tutorial... seems easy enough...

With both ends of the harness in place, you can now concentrate on the wiring. Pull a few inches of wire out of the loom that connects to the front turn signal. There should be three wires. Which two wires you splice depends on when you wish the lights to turn on.

And then it gives the wires that you'll want to use if you want them on as sidemarkers and blinkers or just blinkers... it says to expect "green and black" or "green and white".

Ok, I haven't checked the color of the wires in the car, but the wires from the lights I'm trying to install are black and brown.

So... if they are green and black, or green and white in the car.... is it safe to assume that I'll just go, black to black, or black to white?

Us a test light and find the wires you need to use.
I recommend you use them as turn signals. I have seen alot setup as parking lights. The problem is they melt the lights after a while.

 

Test light? Probably something you've got rigged up... or a tool of somesort?

How do you use it? You clip the aligator clip to something metal i'm assuming... and then just jab into the wire... it lights up when it detects a current?

 

That is correct. The clip goes on a good ground.

 

So when you're in there... what would make a "good ground"?

 

Since you will be up front use the battery terminal for a ground.

Ok guys, removed the Volvo badges last night... what did they use as adhesive on this? Hot glue? What's the best way to remove this stuff stuck around the hole without damaging the paint?

 

Automotive paint stores have a big erasure wheel that mounts to a drill that removes adhesive very well. Its expensive though so you might want to go another route. Remove as much as possible then use goo-gone with a rag to get the left overs.

At least you didnt have happen what happened to me...I pulled a badge and it pulled the clear coat with it.

 

I try to keep it as simple as possible.
I just noticed the arrow. I did not make the sig someone else made it for me.

 

Looks like my clear-coat might be gone under the badge.

 

Maybe i'll go to an autobody shop and see if I can't get an estimate on the removal of the adhesive, get a look at the clearcoat, maybe even some of the rock damage on the front end.

 

Ah crap... so apparently that's not just glue, that's epoxy under the side volvo badges. Meaning, someone epoxyed them on before I owned the car. According to an autobody shop... only way to remove it is to sand it down. Meaning the entire fenders would need to be painted... and in that case, the doors would have to be blended too.

So... unless you guys have some ideas... I might just go at it with a soft-touch dremmel and see if I can't get this old adhesive off without much damage to the paint. Then maybe a little touch up paint or something, and I still install these sidemarkers.

Otherwise, i'll be re-epoxying the badges on and forgetting about it.

Are you sure it is not the OEM double sided tape?

 

On one side it looked like the OEM double-sided tape.

On the other side, it's been super-glued or epoxy'd.

Bummer. I'll probably just end up putting the logo badges back on.
