Fluids and Magnets
I've long considered doing some things with magnets on my car's fluids systems. Grit inevitably gets in the system and can/will wreck havoc... sure a magnet won't catch all of it, but if it catches any of it, isn't that worth the prevention attempt?
The power steering system stood out to me, and I wanted to figure a way to dangle a magnet in the reservoir and still maintain the pressure it needs in the system.
Well, maybe i've found a similar solution? Poking around on IPD I see this inline magnetic filter for the power steering and automatic transmission.
Has anyone used this? Is it effective? Easy to install? Worth it? Or just snake oil?

I also saw this oil filter magnet... seems simple enough. Anyone tried it?

Thanks guys!

Wow, kind of sounds like I work for them or something... ha ha... but no, honestly, i'm looking for any feedback or opinions on the subject before I waste money, time, and inevitably break something while trying to modify this.
;-)
Thanks.

Thanks.
Dave,
I think your most effective magnetic trick will be for the oil pan...it might worth it to put it in your transmission fluid but not too sure about the power steering pump. The reason I say this is because your engine by far has the most friction and bi-directional moving parts (meaning back and forth rather than rotation). You could make a case (no pun intended) for your transmission but everything in there spins and has that design element.
During your next power steering flush, drop a magnet in the kill fluid you drain and see what it picks up. I've been wrong once or twice in my day...I have a few super magnets that uncle pete let me borrow...the ones used to keep "wide load" signs on transport trucks...would do the trick...
my $.02...
