Default Green Meanie.....

Picked this up a while ago, 1997 850 AWD 5 speed..........needed a new gas tank, done, needed front struts, done, needed a couple of small things inside, done, found out the engine was replaced less then 2 years ago, upgraded high output turbo and ECM was "chipped" or reprogramed or whatever they do,,,, ;-)

Even my dog Donzi likes it...........I must admit, this thing rides on rails.... :-)

Best thing, got it for $1500.............

Thanks, appreciate it, question if I may, adjusting the parking brake, I have max'd out on the cable adjustment in the handle, do I need to go into the pad adjustment in the rotors?

New to these Swedish beauties........

Nice indeed, and you stole it too!

Yes, you need to back off the cable adjustments, go into the rear rotors to see if you have any parking brake shoe liner left. If yes, then adjust shoes at the rear (should be access hole through backing plate i would hope), then readjust cables. If no, then renew park brake shoes, and follow previous instructions. Really no different than any other car w/rear disc brakes.

Well it's a little different as there are two types. One where the manufacturer chose to use the rear caliper for the parking brake and the parking brakes work with the rotor and pads and then the others who chose to design a drum brake into the center of the rear rotor so you have a caliper and rotor for the normal service brakes and you have a physical drum brake for parking.

The nice thing about the disc/drum setup is that you don't have to rent or own the kit to physically get the rear caliper to screw back into the caliper. With a built in parking brake you have to screw the puck back in. With the rear drum parking brake you can just push a rear caliper back in like you do on the fronts.

"do I need to go into the pad adjustment in the rotors?"
From his statement I'm thinking he thinks he has the calipers with the built in parking brake.

If you need new brake shoes and want to get them locally they are "820"s. I used the Oreilly price ($29) at Autozone ($81) to get a price match and a lifetime warranty. Nice thing about the Autozone shoes is they cover wear, Oreilly doesn't.

https://www.google.com/#bav=on.2,or....ake+adjustment

You adjust the shoes first to just barely drag or one "click" short of that and then you adjust the lever.

I suggest you leave those parking brakes alone. The cables are know to rust out and snap, locking up the rear tires.

Not sure how anyone would wear down the pads on parking brakes.

Shoes.

By forgetting to take the parking brake off or by having it stick due to the cable seizing inside the sheath and failing to fully release.

All good info guys, thanks. The brake system seems to working fine and looks in good shape, only issue is the parking brake does not hold on a steep slope and the adjustment at the brake lever is maxed out, I will pull the rear wheels this weekend and dive into it in more detail.....

I thought that looked familiar. You did get a deal, I recall what the asking price was. Nice.
