Default Headlight aiming - which screw is vertical?

Replaced my headlight assemblies with an HID type. The instructions don't tell me which screw is for vertical aim and which is for horizontal, nor which direction is up or left.

There is one in the center, upper part of the housing, another in the lower, outer part of the housing.

EDIT: another thing that complicates writing directions... if you insert the screwdriver vertically from the top, to engage the "teeth," and turn, say, clockwise, the assembly will move in some direction.

BUT if you insert your screwdriver horizontally from the rear, turning the screwdriver clockwise will cause the assembly to move in the OPPOSITE direction from doing it vertically.

I neglected to write the answer down when I installed these 3 years ago... the beam seems to have dropped downwards over the years.

These are the lights:
93-97 Volvo 850 Halo LED Projector Headlights - Chrome :: Headlights :: Aftermarket Lights :: Lighting :: Dash Z Racing

And initial discussion:

After 3 years, really not very happy with this product.

I don't know. I guess I would just adjust them around until they hit where I needed them.

Except that it took about 100 turns to get any visible results. I think it mostly just spins without engaging the internal gear.

No, those show the OEM headlights. And anyway they don't say which direction of turn makes them go up vs down. But even if it did say, there is no way to know if the aftermarket lights adjust in the same direction as the OEM lights.

My mechanic said his aiming machine doesn't work well with the HID lights. And he didn't notice any change when turning the adjustment **** -- but I doubt he turned it 100 times before giving up.

Maybe take it to a euro car specialist?

"there is no way to know if the aftermarket lights adjust in the same direction as the OEM lights."

If that's the case and there is a chance the aftermarket maker strayed from the OEM design your best bet is to contact them for instructions on aiming.

As was pointed out in the original thread, the seller (Dash Z racing) is useless. There is no lead to the actual manufacturer.
