..and need to know the MY (model year); as of MY 96 only dealer (or shop w/high end scanner) can read HVAC codes.

Remember, OBD2 is drivetrain only, and not even all of those..

You need to tell us more about the car to get any useful help.

That or try a 12volt heater

And, just because it is getting cold that heater in the above post is mostly just a joke. I actually bought two and wired them to the battery on my Geo Metro because the little 3 cyl engine never heated up enough just sitting to clear the windshield. You could let it idle for 30 minutes and there would still be frost on the windshield. Until you started moving it didn't burn enough gas or circulate enough water to get any use out of the cars defroster. With the two little heaters running and the cars heater on low it would clear the windshield.

They absolutely will not heat the interior at all any noticeable amount. If aimed at the windshield they will help defog and defrost it. People buy a ton of these in the fall / early winter thinking it will do what the package advertising says, heat your car, no way. They almost all come back.

I did move them to my pickup as they do start defrosting immediately. That way I can see where I'm going for the couple minutes it takes that 5.7 to build some heat It's also nice if you're in the habit of taking hot coffee with you as it keeps the cold windshield from condensing your breath and the coffee vapor and icing up on the inside when you first take off.
