1996 850 2.5TDI Wagon
Hi all, I have "inherited" the above wagon.
It would seem that over the last years that when something broke...it was left like that. Been working through it and fixed most stuff important to me.
HOWEVER..............the heater fan works for a few seconds when ignition on and then stops. Ac amber lights flashing. Power bank (resistor) replaced and this has enabled the first few seconds, before nothing. Fan motor lubed (though it wes OK)
Bottom line in I dont want/need ac but I do want the blower for winter.
Questions...
Do codes actually stop things from working?
If AC need regassing, would that stop blower?
Is it a problem to hotwire the fan?

BTW fuses all ok, high level mini fans blown through

Can you read the codes from the AC ECC? I found these instructions for decoding.

Thanks I made, that "reader" earlier and followed a video that it was featured; The led did not light in either the ign on or off position.
Since the OP I used a 21w bulb in place of the motor and that went out afrer 3 seconds...so Ive eliminated excessive current draw

The most common cause of that is a heater fan motor using too much current. Even it it still works. If the fan uses too much current the CCM shuts of the power to the fan motor and stores a fan overcurrent code. Next time you start the car it tries again - and for you the same result.

Sometimes you can work around the problem - Start the car with the Climate control manually turned off. Then don't put in "auto" - just slide the fan switch on slightly - many customers have delayed fan motor replacement using that technique.

I also thought of your idea before that check. For the few seconds it works, the fan seems at full speed whatever the setting.
