Default Rear Brake Noise -- Half Shims Are the Fix

For rear brake squeal, squeak, using metal shims that only cover 2/3 of the pads is the solution. I tried every combination of grease and brake quiet on the market. Even went so far as to change pads and have the rotors resurfaced.

Hello JM,

I used cv-joint grease on the rear in August and so far they are quiet. But yes the shims are of 2/3 type, Scan-tech Sweden. Typical brake-quiet compound didn't do any good, as you've stated.

Thanks for the info.

As it turns out, the CV joint paste and OEM pads didn't work either.

Time to sell the car.

If the rotors were turned that is most likely causing it.

Volvo's don't like to have the rotors cut.
