Default Motor dies after start / Is that loose thing the problem?

Hi,

I bought my first '95 850 Volvo and so far I somehow love the car. But I did some major mistake and didn't check the car properly. Well, anyways now I have to deal with it and hope to help her driving around sunny California soon.

At the moment the car does start but after 30 seconds it dies straight away. I encountered a loose house in front of the engine and wonder if that is maybe the problem. I attached a picture to show the broken part.

Thank you guys in advance!

Possible, that has to do with the fuel pressure regulator. It attaches to the regulator under the fuel rail.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi rspi,

(sorry changed my username from mindgap to volvofornia, love that name

Thank you so much for your help and the hint. It was definetly the vacum pipe to the fuel pressure regulator (FPR).The replacement was kind of easy and it took me 30 minutes with everything. When I disconected the black connector from the vacum tree I could see that another connecter also was completly destroyed.
After replacing all of the parts and the pipes the motor started and didnt stall anymore. I still could hear a (knocking sound in the engine). My first thought was that the machine has not enough oil but after checking everything was ok and the noise disappeard after a couple of minutes.

While checking the all of the connectors I could spot that the main connector to the ventilator was disconnected. Why would somebody do that? It feels like the guy who owned the car before didn't really know anything about cars and treated her poorly. Hopefully I can recover her and make her beautiful again.

Do you use OEM/ Mann oil filters? They have a check valve to help keep oil in the top half of the engine for start ups. may help but I suspect you may have had a rich start up mixture and just burned it off.

I found out that Fram will usually have the engine sounding like a sewing machine with ticking on start up.
