You can do it. I hear it really does not help that much. But give it and shot. I think you can find them for like $5.00 or $10.00 more.

There is one for sale on VS right now.

an ignition coil will only generate as much voltage as is needed by the spark plug to fire.
So you could have a 100,000 volt (rated) coil, but if the engine is only needing 5,000v to fire, thats all you'll get.
chances are the lower impedance and hence higher current draw may actually hurt the oem transistor.

most modern systems are more than enough for even hard street demands.

The actual MSD box's (6a etc), now thats a different story.

I have one and have not noticed a bit of difference other than I feel cool having one. So if you want to feel good and have a nice looking add on under the hood plus the $40 to spare...go for it. Performance wise...not noticable.

I have read that the OEM is actually better than the MSD.

The stock coil is more then powerful. If your stock coil has gone bad, then get the MSD. Otherwise, don't waste your money.

Adding voltage to the ignition system will only help if you're firing worn- out pugs and bad wires. Or if you're driving a car that makes like 1,000 HP out of 2.0 liters. Really heavy loads require more voltage to be able to fire. For a Volvo 850? There's no point in paying the extra for the MSD, unless you simply want it to look cool. And there's better ways to do that, too.

Paint your oem coil orange and write MSD with a sharpie on it, or any three letters you want for that matter.

I was thinking "better ways to make your engine compartment/ car" look cool. Not your coil. Though I suppose that would work, too

I know. I agree though, if your going for aesthetics, then MSD ftw.

Actually if you go through FCP the oem coil is actually more than the MSD from IPD. I withdraw my statements and get whatever you want. I would still go oem.
