Default Nitrous and my 850GLT

I have a few nitrous kits left over from my hot rod days, and would like to know if i can put a wet kit on my 97 850 GLT Wagon? And what would be a good hp shot?(50,75 exc) Or is this a crazy idea?

That should give us some nice pictures to gawk at for a while =)

Really though... I dont know.. start small? see how bad it goes?

rods bend on these cars if there is too much torque at low rpms they say....
check this link out a little maybe.
doesn't talk about nitrous but...

Nitrous...mmm interesting. Go with a Wet/Dry kit that way you'll have less of a chance to lean it out. Not sure where you would tap into the fuel though...maybe on the rails somewhere. Let us know how it goes?

I cant be the FIRST???? Im new to volvo's. But i have ran nitrous on every thing, starting back in the 90s. Is there a service pressure port on the fuel rail? I will do a full write up with pics if I'm the first..

That would be cool! If it was a Mustang it would be a piece of cake but I guess that is whats cool about a Volvo...it's different!

HAHA yes SIR...... it would be a hour or 2 job on an old fox 5.0.

SO???? is there a pressure test port on the fuel rail?

... I always heard this was a bad idea in an 850 due to compression lvls and the engine not being able to handle it.

lemme knowif you end up buying a new engine.

Its a bad idea if you are doing it... or if i do it to my car... but if someone else wants to... that's not bad... that's an experiment i want to see the results of... =)

i know this is an old thread, buttt i've been thinking about this for a while now. and i might just do it. i was thinking like a 50 or 75 shot. definitely wet. tapped into the service port. the only thing that im curious about is the timing, and if that retarded timing is going to heat up my turbo. anybody have an opinion on this?

When I was looking for a place for my meth injection I scoped out this spot. It might work for a fogger.

I would not worry about retarded timing, you should worry about advanced timing. If you run a wet system you will also be cooling the intake and getting more advance out of the system. Its all ECU controlled so there is nothing you can do. I would just start small and work your way up.

Sounds like a fun project.

It's not that old a thread plus it would interesting to find out. I bought a nitrous kit but decided I didn't really want to go that radical with this car and the other car couldn't handle any more power without twisting itself in half.

I've always heard to retard timing two degrees for every 50hp of nitrous, because it burns faster and what not... idk. i was thinkin on the 2.3 turbo, i can play with the cap. unless i use an upgraded maf and shoot it before the maf, i dont think negative two hundred degrees would get read very well my the stock one.

The timing on a Volvo 850 is not adjustable it is computer controlled. You cannot move the cap/distributor. Not to mention that if you did by some way move the cap the ECU would compensate and move the timing right back into specs.

You also do not want to shoot nitrous before a maf sensor. The nitrous ideally should be shot as close to the combustion chamber as possible. In an ideal situation, right next to the factory injectors.

Not to come down on you here but I think you need to do a little more homework on nitrous and the workings of a Volvo engine. Your scaring me.

i didnt think the computer would recognize the timing difference. and yeah you have a point, i guess before the maf is only necessary with a dry shot.

I knew the timing of the dist wasn't adjustable but when you adjust the intake cam to change it's timing you are moving the rotor the same amount of degrees in relation to the cap.
The computer still controls the spark curve so adjusting the intake cam timing doesn't alter the ignition timing.
Sorry for talking out loud but just wanted to say that in case anyone though moving the cam would alter the ignition timing.
To change ignition timing you have to remap the ECM.
